Anthropologie chalkboard placemats hack

Anthropolgie Chalkboard place mat

$28 for a set of 25

Yeah, I don’t need 25. Maybe for a birthday party… I just need 2 for right now. So off to the Ol’ Dollar Tree for 2 plastic placemats and I already had some chalkboard spray paint. You can pick a can up at craft stores, Wal-Mart and Amazon.

I actually had these placemats on hand. You can pick them up at yard sales, Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon. You could have some on hand from when your kids were toddlers. I had a Dora and Princess one.

$1-$1.50 placemat

$3-$5 can of chalkboard spray paint (don’t forget to use a coupon at the craft stores)

$1-$2 chalk

I used chalkboard paint on the bottom one with a sponge paintbrush. Spray paint works better. Two coats on a plastic placemat and Bam! instant doodle pad.

Chalk paint furniture makeovers

Diy furniture makeovers #diy #diyfurniture

Guarantee these next projects will inspire you to find some antique furniture pieces and give them a makeover. I love simple projects, and I have stayed away from furniture makeovers because I was terrified of the time and mess I would make.  My mother opened a hair salon, and it is absolutely gorgeous, and the best part she did makeovers on all her furniture pieces. Our first project was this antique couch that she fell in love with the structure but not so much the fabric. before couch

As you can see much needed tlc was needed to this couch. Did you know you can paint fabric furniture pieces? Neither did but there are many tutorials all over the internet with chalk paint.

We first taped off the wood pieces on the furniture.

Next you wet your fabric with a spray bottle, you don’t want it soaking just damp.

Next we started painting on the wet pieces making circle movements. Once we painted the whole couch you let it dry over night. The next day you have to sand the paint a little and apply a second coat.

After the couch was dry we used Annie Sloan clear coat wax. This will help seal your paint and soften your fabric.

Our last step, we painted the wood a metallic silver. after diy couch

Not bad for a$60.00 couch!

My next project was this Hutch I found at Goodwill for $111.00. We are opening up our own spa line at the salon and we have been looking for a hutch to display some of our products, so when we came across this hutch, we had to snag it up. 20160102_171511

What I love about chalk paint, is you don’t have to sand and prime down your furniture pieces, which saves a lot of time and headache. This piece all I did was tape off my mirrors took the back off and painted away. We took out the middle door so it was more open with our products displayed. The back part we took off and covered in silver glitter wrapping paper.  after diy hutch12391364_1630752460518547_1809668577535423340_n 10313784_1630752490518544_3091979651299645046_n

a few other pieces painted with chalk paint.

Christmas Decor Ideas

hot cocoa bar #christmas #holidays #christmasideas
Christmas is finally here!! I am officially allowed to decorate the house, listen to Christmas music and watch Christmas movies.  This year I did a hot cocoa bar set up for my family that I can keep up through the winter. Once it gets cold outside, my children have to have hot cocoa. Here is just a little glimpse of my home for the cocoa bar #christmas #hotcocoa

I created this poster on Picmonkey and emailed the file to my local FedEx and had them make a copy and blow it up. Because it is a black and white photo it only cost little over $2.00 to make. Next, I went to Dollar Tree and purchased these snowflakes. I used command strips to stick to my walls. I suggest using a few on each snowflake because the next day i had snowflakes falling off. hot cocoa bar #christmas #hotcocoabar

You can buy hot cocoa cups for your keurig, but my kids complain they are to watery. I use my keurig to make tea and hot cocoa just by running the hot water over my tea, or hot cocoa, with no k cups inside. hot cocoa bar #christmas #hotcocoa Christmas ideas #christmas #masonjars #antiques

So I have a little obsession with vintage mason jars. I thought the teal mason jars would look pretty on my fireplace lit up with some string lights. One of my favorites this year! Merry Christmas!

Halloween Home Tour

Halloween decorating ideas #halloween #fall #halloweencrafts

October is here, so I had to get my decorating on so I can enjoy Halloween for the whole month. Some of my decorations I have made myself and others bought at some of my favorite stores.  One of my favorite things I did this year, is cover up one of my photos with black scrapbook paper and command strips and used this $1 Drink up Witches sign I found in the Target dollar section, for literally $2.00 I made the cutest sign.halloween cheap decorations

halloween decor Pretty sure I was a witch in my past life because I love anything, witches. I created my little witches corner. I found my Witch at Tuesday Morning for $24.99. They have all different Witches to choose from, but I suggest going in early September because by October they are gone. Learned my lesson from last year. halloween decor A few years back I made these DIY spell books Diy Post here. I found my little potion bottle in the Target dollar section. It completed my little witches corner. halloweenEvery year Target has these spooky talking phones, that my kids love. I covered Dollar Tree cobwebs over everything because my children can’t keep their hands off everything.halloweenI bought this little bag of bones while I was in New Orleans, however I saw the same bag at Stein Mart for $6.99

halloween decor I found these Day of the Dead decals at Jo Ann’s (2015) here is my diy post. halloween decor This year I am having a Day of the Dead Halloween Party, and my color theme is black and white, so when I came across this at Joann’s I had to have it.   halloween82015

I crafted this little sign together with a piece of scrapbook paper and these foam stickers I found at Hobby Lobby.

batsYou can find these sticker bats at Target and they are only $5.00. I bought this picture at Kirkland’s a few years back, and I have so many friends that love it that I made a copy-cat free printable, you can print it out and frame.Free Halloween Printable #halloween #halloweenprintables #halloweenquotes

fall porch ideas
My little fall porch set up I did this year. I went to wal-mart for the best prices for mums. Don’t buy your mums from the display, first check their nursery for better deals. When I checked their nursery they had over two full rows of 50% reduced mums, not because they were dying just because they were the older batch. Each Mum only cost $1.99. Another tip, of course buy your Halloween decor the day of Halloween or the very next day. Wait any longer and it will be picked over. I found this sign for less than $5 at kirklands last year after Halloween.  flowers

Christmas isn’t the only holiday you can decorate your house with lights. You can buy a box of orange or purple lights for less than $4.00. I added black tulle every foot on my string of lights. I added more this year under my roof of my porch sweeping back and forth, to make it a little more magical. Yes, I’m a little kid at heart.

DIY Fall Yarn Felt Wreath

diy fall wreath

This cute Fall wreath is too cute not to share with others. Mary had one hanging in our office last fall and I loved it so much I had to replicate it.

What you will need to make this wreath:

Styrofoam wreath

  • Styrofoam wreath from a craft store. I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon. People also use pool noodles and tape them into a circle. Pool noodles can be found at Dollar Tree and way cheaper then the styrofoam kind.
  • Yarn of your color choice. I stuck with a tan, neutral color. Coordinating color yarn to be the x’s on the felt diamonds. I choose goldish-yellow that I had on hand.

Fall wreath felt

  • Felt. I choose burnt orange and chocolate brown for my argyle diamonds. Got mine at Hobby Lobby.
  • Fall decorations. I choose fall color flowers, leaves, pumpkins, and acorns. Can find at craft stores and Dollar Tree. The key is to find an assortment for $1-2.
  • Fall color ribbon. I went with orange solid I already had on hand.

Wrap the styrofoam wreath with your base yarn. I used one skein of “I love This Yarn” brand.  I used hot glue to seal the ends onto the wreath.

Cut the felt into equal squares. I only needed 5 of each color square. It depends on how big your wreath is. I hot glued the squares to the base yarn. Then I wrapped the gold yarn over the diamond in an  “X” pattern to create the argyle. I hot glued the back only.

I then did the orange ribbon. I looped the ribbon through the wreath and tied into a bow at the top. I measured it to my nail before I cut it. I seal my ribbon with a lighter, but you can use sealer. While the wreath was hanging, I arranged my flowers, acorns and pumpkins. I then hot glued them in place. Some people like to arrange their wreaths on the ground. I just found it easier to do it while it was hanging.

Total cost was: $8.

Fall Crafts Diy

Fall crafts diyOn one of my many trips to Hobby Lobby, I came across this cute fall photo but didn’t want to spend what they were asking for. So I walked over to the scrapbook paper section and picked up a piece of paper for .59. I already have a fall leaf stencil at home, but they sell them at the craft stores for less than $2.00. I also already have gold paint and gold glitter at home, so on this project I literally just needed to buy the paper. hobby lobby

diy print paperI picked out this paper and cut it the size I needed, which was 5×7 for my frame.  I placed my stencil over the paper and held it firm and sponged over my gold paint in the stencil. When I was done I sprinkled over my gold glitter while the paint was wet. And that’s it! After it dried I put it in my frame for display. Hobby Lobby copy cat

Last year, I sprayed some mason jars gold here is my DIY post

diy print 1My little pumpkin here I found at Dollar Tree and spray painted it a light gold with spray paint I already had at home.  I let it fully dry and took a paint brush and brushed on Modge Podge and then again sprinkled on my glitter. My polka-dot pumpkin above; I spray painted it cream and when it was dry, I took a pencil with an eraser and dipped the eraser in gold paint to make my polka dots. Cheating, yes but it worked.dollar tree crafts5

Coffee until Wine Chalkboard plaques

Coffee until Wine

My sweet friend Mary is a crafty little bee. We have a lot in common (other then the crafty part). She loves coffee and wine just as much as me!

Well, that crafty Mary put together this adorable chalkboard display. It totally speaks to me. This would be a cute DIY gift for your coffee/wine loving friend’s kitchen or yours.

Now if I could just get Target to sell wine, I would have my three favorites in one spot!

Mary let me in on her tutorial and here’s what you need in order to replicate:

Wood piece to paintThe large chalkboard was just a piece of thin wood. I’m not sure what kind (Mary’s husband’s grandad made it for them).

chalk holderMary attached a piece of wood with a groove in it to hold the chalk.

back of chalk holder

Back of chalk holder.

She painted the top with Rust-oleum chalk board spray paint.

chalk board paint She did 3 coats. Two coats would probably work. If you are not used to using spray paint, practice on something else first. Remember to stand back when spraying. If you get to close, the paint will run.

close up of grooved chalk holder Then she used Annie Sloan chalk paint in old ochre on the bottom and sealed it with Annie Sloan wax.

top of chalk boardAfter that was all dry she tried to figure out how she would hang it, so she actually hammered nails through the top sides. She pulled the nails back out and threaded the twine through the holes.

small chalk boards The small ones were left over from her wedding. They were like $1 at Wal-Mart but they could only be used with the chalk paint markers because it didn’t have the actual chalkboard surface. Mary took out the twine out and painted 2 coats of the spray paint over them and then just shorten the twine to the length she wanted and restrung it.

Halloween Sugar Skull Crafts- Dollar Tree hacks

Cheap Halloween crafts dollar tree hacks #halloween #sugarskulls #dayofthedead #halloweendecorI know, I know- It’s August and I am posting Halloween, but If you’re a crafter you know every store is full of Halloween crafts and décor already. I have come across some things that I knew I could make cheaper and have found some things that are a great deal. SO I needed to share. I was at Jo-Ann Fabrics the other day admiring all their Halloween décor and came across these sugar skull candles. They were selling them for $6.99 sugar skull Very cute, but I remember coming across these candles at Dollar Tree.

dollar tree candle4Well in the next aisle at Jo-Ann’s I found these Sugar skull embellishment’s.

sugar skull decalFor two they were $4.99 with 25% off, making it $3.75. I turned my craft into two projects. I came across these goodies as well and couldn’t believe the price. They were not on sale but even if they were 50% off the price is still crazy. Halloween craftsI drink wine so I have wine bottles already able to use, but even if you don’t drink wine find a friend that does. You can also ask restaurants that serve wine if you can recycle their bottles for them. wine bottlesBuy a can of spray paint. I always buy mine at Wal-Mart for less than $4.00.  I wanted to spray my bottle with a gloss black instead of chalkboard.  The best tip for spray painting is to give yourself enough space to avoid paint runs. sugar skull crafts2

Once dried I added one of my sugar skulls.
